Canada/Atlantic
Provinces Cooperation Agreement
on International Business Development
The Canada/Atlantic Provinces Agreement on International Business Development (IBDA) is a federal/provincial partnership. Its objective is to assist established exporters in Atlantic Canada expand their activities and to help new exporters get started.
The IBDA partners include:
Government of Canada
- Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
- Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada
- Industry Canada
Provincial Governments
- Province of Nova Scotia
- Province of New Business
- Province of Newfoundland and Labrador
- Province of Prince Edward Island
Projects must be Pan-Atlantic in scope. The following groups may submit proposals for funding:
- Non-profit organizations
- Industry groups
- Universities
- Government
This Agreement funds projects in four areas:
- Export Training and Export Awareness
- International Business Development
- Market Information and Intelligence
- Planning & Research
Export Training and Export Awareness
This element is designed to develop an awareness of exporting as a tool for
business expansion, the potential for sales in foreign markets, and the need to
counter competitors entering the traditional markets. The export training
component includes communications campaigns, seminars, conferences,
speakers tours, how to manuals, and mentoring.
International Business Development
This element undertakes market development activities in the implementation of
established market strategies. Activities such as trade missions and trade shows provide opportunities for firms
across the region, that complement each other, to develop partnerships and other
arrangements to pursue new markets.
Market Information and Intelligence
This element is designed to deliver market information and
intelligence to Atlantic firms through such mechanisms as streamlined databases,
the development of product specific marketing information and developing the
capacity to access fast-trend data.
Planning and Research
Studies carried out by both the public and private sectors
will contribute to a common understanding and information base on trade
barriers, trade patterns, export strategies and export opportunities.
